Believing God Today

Giving Hope and Comfort in His Grace

To Gospel or not to Gospel

I read a post today by a friend of mine in the blogging world that got me to thinking, or trying to think anyway. Bryan over at http://chiefofleast.com/ posted an article he reblogged from reformedbaptistfellowship. This was an article on today’s preaching in the church, or lack thereof. You can see Bryan’s repost here.

Why is today’s preaching so different? Not all preaching, there are many good preachers of the Word yet, lest I be barbecued for saying otherwise. There is however a decline in quality teaching of the Word of God today…why?

Many churches teach a feel good theology. They teach that Jesus loves you, well that is true and a good thing to teach. What about the rest of what God has to say? These types of churches only teach the “nice” parts of the bible, you know the parts that are easily palatable. This is doing a huge disservice to their congregations.

Many other churches teach that God wants to give you all good things; this is totally reprehensible. God does not want to give you the world and everything in it, what would you need Him for then? (If we had all things, we would be busy enjoying them instead of where our true enjoyment should come from…God) Why then are we not all rich? Drive nice cars and have all the toys? This is called prosperity gospel teaching, and it is very damaging. Suppose you are a fresh new Believer…and you are taught in this kind of church. You are taught that you just pray enough, ask properly, and Walla…God your sugar daddy in heaven will give you all things. What happens when you don’t receive many of things you asked for, and after this has happened for a few years? People are going to become disillusioned and walk away from Christ, that is a terrible thing to happen because they were improperly taught and their false expectations were not met. No blame on God for this, the blame and the shame belongs to the one(s) teaching a false gospel.

Today’s churches need to come back into preaching the way God intended it to be done. I don’t presume to speak for God, but some things are just blatantly obvious.

God did not say anywhere in the bible that He would give us everything we want, people take verses in the bible out of context and make theses verses say what they want to hear.

An example of this is 2 Corinthians 8:9 “For you know what our Lord Jesus Christ gives freely, that though He was rich, for your sakes he became poor, so that by his poverty you might become rich.”

This verse has nothing to do with money and possessions. This verse is actually teaching that our true “wealth” comes in the form of our spiritual blessings in Christ. Yes Paul was talking in the surrounding verses about real money, but he was talking about giving it away, not lining our own pockets with it! The coming kingdom is not going to be about money, and being a disciple of Jesus is not about how much money and you can have and how many toys you own.

Another verse taken out of context, John 14:13-14 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.

But wait…that looks like Jesus is saying He will give us all things. It looks that way because that is the part prosperity gospel teachers choose to use. The whole verse reads this way…

13And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father.14You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.

Now John 14:13-14 has a whole new meaning! Jesus will do anything for us that brings glory to the Father, context always matters! What we ask for must be within the will of God, not for our own selfish gain.

I abhor the teaching of the prosperity gospel so much; I can’t state it in words. God would never be ok with this teaching…ever! Life with God on this earth is so much better than without Him, but the best God has to offer is yet to come…eternal life with Him. 1 Corinthians 2:9 However, as it is written: “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him”

The best is yet to come; we don’t even comprehend what that is…He did not tell us. We only know that we will be with Him as we are forgiven our sins and adopted as His children.

Next time, part two which finishes this article on the Word and teaching it.

The Beautiful Cross of Christ

Crucifixion of Jesus on a two-beamed cross, from the Sainte Bible (1866)

We have received an amazing gift; words do not begin to describe it, yet I try.

We all sin, we do things wrong. We don’t treat others right, we don’t do things we know that we should. We have anger towards others, and it is not gone in a day. These things and so many more are sins.

You may think that your sins are not as bad as that guy down the street…he is really something. I’ve got news for you, God sees us all the same way. Whatever sins you and I have committed, doesn’t matter. You see, it only takes one sin…just one to incur the penalty for sinning. That penalty is death, not physical death although that will happen…I mean spiritual death, separation from God.

We were (or if you don’t know Christ are) God’s enemies because we sinned. But even though we disobeyed God and were His enemies, He made a way out for us. We sinned; we caused the problem through our own actions. The Lord in His gracious mercy gave us a way out.

Jesus who was God in the flesh, died on the cross, you see that was the solution to the problem WE caused! Think about it…we caused the problem by disobeying God, and He in effect took away our death sentence by dying for us…that should have been you and me on that cross.

Jesus Christ, a sinless, perfect, beautiful, loving, caring, human being…who was also God. This God/man…chose not to avail Himself of His vast power as God. Instead He came here and lived life as a man, a very special man, but a man nonetheless.

Christ chose to suffer the same things that we do in life, He did not have to. He chose to suffer through the pain on the cross, He didn’t have to.

He chose to die, no one could have killed Him…He was and is God.

Crucifixion is one of the most, if not THE most painful, horrible ways there is to die. The scourging done before hand often left a person half dead already. Scourging was a severe beating with strips of leather attached to a pole of some kind, the leather strips also had items in them that ripped into the skin and muscle and did horrific damage.

Jesus, in love, suffered this for me, and for you…that we may have life, because He suffered and died. Yes Christ rose from the dead never to die again…but let us not ever forget that He did die, He did suffer actual separation from the Father. Jesus also had to take all the sins of the world upon Himself, and suffer for them.

What A God, what a love for us!
Who are we that we are to be loved so deeply?
Who are we that God Himself steps down from heaven, and pays for all our sins?

We are God’s children…that’s who we are.

The following is a beautiful song by Jonny Diaz called, Beauty of the Cross

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ES9lK1NEy9s&feature=related

At the cross I find the beauty
Of Your matchless grace
At the cross I see a King
Who died to take my place

It’s the moment that
You made me clean
And pardoned my soul

Amazing grace that I would be allowed
Unto Your throne
Not by my own will
But solely by Your will alone

I’m unworthy of this love
You have shown to me
I see my desperate need

The beauty of the cross is that
There’s One who has redeemed my soul
Beauty of the cross is that I’m finally free and letting go
Beauty of the cross is that Your grace has found me just as I am

Not by my own works
That I may boast or I may come
But simply through Your son
The sinless and exalted one

Only through the cross that
I’m made clean to draw near to
You Draw near to You, draw near to You

Saved so that
You would receive
All glory due Your name
Everlasting God from age to age
You never change

A true love story
Remains for all eternity
That all the world would see

The beauty of the cross is that
There’s One who has redeemed my soul
Beauty of the cross is that I’m finally free and letting go
Beauty of the cross is that Your grace has found me just as I am

My sinful soul could only be
Redeemed by the blood of a sinless King
So you came to the world that You had made
Conquered sin on the cross and You rose from the grave

The beauty of the cross is that
There’s One who has redeemed my soul
Beauty of the cross is that I’m finally free and letting go
Beauty of the cross is that Your grace has found me just as I am

The beauty of the cross is that
There’s One who has redeemed my soul
Beauty of the cross is that I’m finally free and letting go
Beauty of the cross is that Your grace has found me just as I am

Yeah, just as I am

That’s the beauty of the cross

The Sydney Harbour Bridge is the centre of a great fireworks display each New Year’s Eve.  For the 2000 event, an extra spectacular display finished with the word ‘Eternity’ blazing its span. Images of this spread throughout the world via the internet.

WHY was this word emblazoned on Sydney Harbour Bridge?  Did it commemorate an important person, one of the rich and famous, or a great achiever?

Ephesians 2:4-6

God . . . made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places, in Christ Jesus

The New Testament clearly reveals that Christ's power and authority over Satan and his kingdom have been conferred to those of us who are in Christ.

CHRISTIANS AND SIN – Pt. 4

Part 1 of this 4 part series can be found here.

Part 2 can be found here.

Part 3 can be found here.

* * * * *

Galatians 5  “16  This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.  17  For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.”

In the verses following Paul goes on to compare the fruits of the flesh with the fruits of the Spirit, and then says:

24  And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.  25  If ye live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.”

Romans 6  “Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.  …. 11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.  12  Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.  13  Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.  14  For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.”

This is the fourth in a series written by Drusilla Mott over at Drusilla Mott. Excellent series written on believers and sin, and why we don’t have to be held captive to sin’s power. We all sin, but that does not mean that sin needs to hold sway in our lives, rather we can through the power of the Holy Spirit and His leading live a life that glorifies Christ.

Are you actively praying for your Country?

Our One Cry Now!

Author: One Cry Team Date: April 26, 2012

When I asked an American friend why her Albanian husband’s relatives were considering moving from America back to Albania, she gave me this reply:

“Until 1990, Albania was ruled by Communists, the official national religion was atheism, and there were fourteen known believers in the entire country. My relatives are seeing the same socialist mindset take over America.

Reeling, I asked, “How can that be!?” She said, “In America, you are not allowed to mention God in your public schools. That was foundational in Communist Albania.”

Just twenty-two years after Albania was known as the most spiritually closed country in the world, there are people suggesting there is more religious freedom in that country than ours.

What have we done to see our nation on such a trajectory? How has it happened that in many areas, robust Christianity has turned into a tentative faith community with little cultural influence?

Have we lost our first love by worshiping the gods of materialism and entertainment? When God asked us to rise up and “take the land,” did we tremble in fear and allow the humanist “giants” take over? Did we sacrifice our children to Molech in pro-choice fires? What exactly have we done?!

Whatever we have done, one response is needed right now: The body of Christ in America must humble ourselves, pray, seek God’s face, and turn from our wicked ways (2 Chronicles 7:14; James 4:9-10).

This week in our OneCry circles, let’s turn wholeheartedly to God and lead our groups to renounce every sin our nation has committed, whether we personally have participated in that sin or not. Let’s provide examples of humble repentance in crying out for mercy.

His Love Endures Forever

Can we ever give “enough” thanks to the Lord?
Where would we be without Him? True we might have a good life, but what about when we leave this life, what happens then? We certainly would not be living the good life. Even in this life, the presence of Jesus does astounding things for us.
We would not change into the new people we become without God.
There would be no “fruit of the spirit”.
We would not care the way that we do after God gets a hold of us.
We would be living for self without the Lord.
We become so much more because He loved us first
We are loved by the One who created us, and all things around us
We are given eternal life, by the One who suffered for us…as a gift
We are called out of darkness and death, by the same One who defeated darkness and death
We are lifted up high upon our death, without the cross that our Lord had to endure
We are with God when we die, without having to suffer separation from the Father as Jesus did.
We are forgiven
We are loved by the One who is love
We have a Father, and a Brother, and the Holy Spirit
We are given grace, and mercy
We are given rest and peace
We are the children of the Almighty God
Praise His Name, praise His Name always
Thank Him, each day every day

Psalm 136

1 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good.
His love endures forever.

2 Give thanks to the God of gods.
His love endures forever.

3 Give thanks to the Lord of lords:
His love endures forever.

4 to him who alone does great wonders,
His love endures forever.

5 who by his understanding made the heavens,
His love endures forever.

6 who spread out the earth upon the waters,
His love endures forever.

7 who made the great lights—
His love endures forever.

8 the sun to govern the day,
His love endures forever.

9 the moon and stars to govern the night;
His love endures forever.

10 to him who struck down the firstborn of Egypt
His love endures forever.

11 and brought Israel out from among them
His love endures forever.

12 with a mighty hand and outstretched arm;
His love endures forever.

13 to him who divided the Red Seat asunder
His love endures forever.

14 and brought Israel through the midst of it,
His love endures forever.

15 but swept Pharaoh and his army into the Red Sea;
His love endures forever.

16 to him who led his people through the wilderness;
His love endures forever.

17 to him who struck down great kings,
His love endures forever.

18 and killed mighty kings—
His love endures forever.

19 Sihon king of the Amorites
His love endures forever.

20 and Og king of Bashan—
His love endures forever.

21 and gave their land as an inheritance,
His love endures forever.

22 an inheritance to his servant Israel.
His love endures forever.

23 He remembered us in our low estate
His love endures forever.

24 and freed us from our enemies.
His love endures forever.

25 He gives food to every creature.
His love endures forever.

26 Give thanks to the God of heaven.
His love endures forever.

So What About the World Anyway?

I was in church listening to a sermon; well it was really a sermon wrapped up in a story.

Our guest speaker, (Lyn Sahr) started out life as a salesman. Having grown up poor, he was determined to be rich, and was on the way to doing just that in part at least.

One day the Lord tapped him on the shoulder and let him know He had a different way for him to go. Lyn became a pastor; he pastored small churches never really getting to where he wanted to go which was to pastor a much larger church.

After praying to God about this and exclaiming that there had to be more then this, (I’m paraphrasing of course) things began to happen. Lyn went to Minneapolis to pick up toys for distribution in Mexico for kids there. Instead of toys, they received a truck loaded with food! They boxed all the food up and gave it away in their community. Then they received a cube van…for free. They kept going to Minneapolis to get food, and then giving it away.

Be careful what you ask God for, you might get it! Ruby’s Pantry was born, a food distribution network for the poor, or anyone who is in need. For a small donation, ($15.00) people walk away with around $100.00 to $200.00 worth of food. No income guidelines, no questions asked. Our church participates in this ministry; in one weekend alone we served 300 families…that is awesome.

What does all this have to do with the world?

What truly gives you a sense of satisfaction? Is it the things of this world? Think about that before you answer.

Jesus as Good Shepherd.

Jesus as Good Shepherd
(stained glass at St John’s Ashfield)

I have known many a person that has a lot of things. They don’t seem happy to me. Obviously the world wasn’t cutting it for Lyn Sahr…he could have refused the Lord’s call, many do.

People who have many things, or a lot of money…typically want more. Not all people, many of them. The quest for “stuff” is nothing short of disgusting in this world. Does it really satisfy? I think not, if it did, then why do people always want more stuff? Why is life about getting all the toys money can buy? People are trying to buy themselves happiness. The problem with that is it’s not going to work.

If you can see into these people’s lives, you can see that they are not satisfied; some will even admit that “something” seems to be missing!

The new car isn’t new for long. The novelty of that awesome new house does indeed wear off. You can only watch so much TV on the new big screen you just bought. The eight thousand dollar John Deere mower you bought only mows grass, so you can’t be on it all the time. There is nothing wrong with wanting some things in life. There is nothing wrong with having some of the finer things the world has to offer if you can afford them.

Where is your focus in life though? Are you enjoying a few things the world has to offer that are acceptable within the guidelines of God? Or are you wrapped up in the world and what it offers, and God is just a secondary consideration? Or is God even in the picture at all?

True contentment does not come from having all the things, the wants, the “I gotta haves” that the world offers us.

True contentment can only come from one place and one place alone. You will find true contentment for yourself only in a relationship with Jesus Christ and what you receive from that relationship. All of the things of the world ring hollow in comparison to the lasting benefits of what Christ has to offer.

What is passion number one in your life? Fishing, or maybe racing, or hiking, or boating? It should be God.

We were created to serve God, not the world. Do you enjoy some of life’s pleasures, or do life’s pleasures rule you?

The world and the things of the world are the highway to hell if not properly managed. At the very least they are Satan’s vehicles to throw you off track and cause you to become an ineffective servant of Christ. If your focus is on getting what you want from the world, you are not going to be concerned with serving the Creator. If you are focused on obtaining the world’s treasures, you are focused on the very thing that can and will destroy you.

The Apostle Paul was content with much, or with little, why was that? The single largest source of gratification in Paul’s life was Jesus Christ. When we learn that our center, our biggest need in life, our greatest want, the thing we desire most…is Christ, then we have learned the most important lesson in life.

So what about the world anyway?

Give me Jesus first, last, and in the middle. Then I’ll worry about the world and what it has to offer.

Anyone else getting on this train?

Belief in God = Bigger Brain?

According to a CNN article from a couple of years ago, ("Are humans hard-wired for faith?"), this just may be the case.

Neuroscientist Dr. Andrew Newberg discovered from studying brain scans that the parietal lobe, which processes our sensory information, is also responsible for  "that feeling of becoming part of something greater than oneself." Newberg believes that his findings may be evidence that faith is a natural function of the brain inherent in all human beings.

How the Dead Come to Life

Paul Writing His Epistles, 16th century (Blaffer Foundation Collection, Houston, Texas).

How do spiritually dead people come to life? If you are dead then how can you accept spiritual truths that you are not equipped to understand?

In order for any of us to come to Jesus, we must be drawn by the Father.

John 6:44 “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him, and I will raise him up at the last day.

So even though prior to having accepted Christ as Savior you were dead in your sins, and are not capable of true understanding of the Word of God…God is still reaching out to you if you are His.

Some people take John 6:44 to mean that people don’t have freedom of choice. That is simply not true; God the Father draws you to Jesus that does not mean you have to accept what Jesus then offers you. We have a choice; it’s called free will. So how does that coincide with predestination? Honest answer…I have no idea, nor do I worry about it. It simply is, and somehow the two work together, because God is God, and nothing is impossible for Him!

People take the idea of being spiritually dead, and turn it into something it is not. Here is what Ephesians 2:1-5 says, 1 As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, 2 in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. 3 All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our sinful nature and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature objects of wrath. 4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions–it is by grace you have been saved.

These verses tell us that we were dead in our sins, (verse 1) because we followed the ruler of this world (verse 2) which is Satan. Notice though what verses 4-5 say…that when we were dead in our transgressions, God through His great love for us saved us, by His Grace. Therefore, there is a way for the spiritually dead to come alive in Christ. We need to realize here that although someone unsaved cannot understand the deeper truths contained in the Bible; that does not mean that a person cannot understand a very basic truth.

Let’s back up a minute and look at faith. 2 Corinthians 5:7 We live by faith, not by sight.

So faith is not something we see, faith is also not something we have to feel. Faith means to trust in what we do not see, and also something we do not understand.

Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. Faith at the beginning is always an action, not a feeling. When you decided to accept Christ as Lord and Savior, that was a choice not a feeling. Feeling may have been involved, but accepting Christ is a choice nevertheless. Have you ever heard, Step out in faith, or take a leap of faith? What do those statements imply? As it relates to what we are talking about here, you are trusting or believing in Christ to provide, or help you, or come through for you in some way, you are going to make a choice to step out despite your doubt or fear, and do something you believe the Lord wants you to.

Lets go back to spiritual deadness, keeping in mind the context of faith just described. If you were reading the bible because you were say curious, or you were searching, seeking maybe; you read 1 John 5:13 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.

You may not understand a lot of what the bible says, but you can choose to accept this statement as being true. Better yet, people show up at your door and explain Christ to you in a simple way; you have been feeling for some time now that something is missing in life. Now you know what has been missing, and you choose to pray and receive Christ! Or you have been attending church, and are not saved. The Pastor is talking about Christ and what He can do for you, you have been having a hard time in life, nothing seems to help, there is nowhere to turn and you are at the end of yourself. The Pastor gives an alter call, and although you by far do not understand a lot, you accept and pray to receive Christ. These are choices made based on information read or heard.

Lets look at Ephesians 2:8-9 8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith–and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God– 9 not by works, so that no one can boast.

We have been saved by God’s grace; well what is grace? Grace is God’s unmerited favor given to us, or receiving what we do not deserve. So we are receiving eternal life from God when what we do deserve is death, but by His Grace, we are given life. How is this done? Through faith are we saved according to verse eight above. I believe the real gift here to be that God forgives us our sins and grants us a whole new life as soon as we pray to receive the Son as Lord and Savior.

Does God grant us faith to accept Christ as who he says he is before we accept Christ? In the broadest sense, I tend to think not, we are after all spiritually speaking…dead. Our faith is truly started within us when we except Christ, the Holy Spirit comes to live within us after we accept Jesus, and we are made spiritually alive. But yet at the same time, God does have something to do with this choice we make, He called us after all.

Maybe there is a small seed of faith within us, such as the person who on occasion thinks of God, and then moves on and does nothing about it. Something after all causes us to seek, to fill that hole that nothing else seems to fill. That something is always God…we have a God shaped hole…only God can fill it.

Sweet honeysuckle vines
Lily of the valley fragrant
And secret smiles hushed
Awaiting the moment
Of vows and blessings
A night of celebration
Below a starlit canopy
Torches blazing red
Hearts aflame with love…

Don't Play or Pretend to Pray- Narrow is the Way

There are many around us that “play” church, we have all seen them. You know who I am talking about. There are some that you see in church, or in public or in your day-to-day life.
The following verse in Matthew has remained one of the verses that I have pondered on all of my life. When I was but a “wee lad” as my grandfather used to call me, I was afraid that I would be one of the ones mentioned in this passage.

I don’t like Christians

James Joseph Jacques Tissot (1836–1902)

The longer I live and breathe, the less I like the terms “Christian”, and “Christianity”.

In fact, I don’t like Christians…huh????

If being Christian means you have to follow some predetermined set of rules or someone’s idea of proper criteria, count me out please. The phrase, “I’m a Christian”, does not set well with me anymore. Why not you might ask?

In part, I admit that “Christians” have attained a status that is less then desirable in today’s world…and have been in large part responsible for this happening themselves. Hard truth to swallow, but true nonetheless. In the DC Talk song What If I Stumble, there is a quote at the beginning that says,

“The greatest single cause of atheism in the world today
Is Christians who acknowledge Jesus with their lips
Then walk out the door and deny him by their lifestyle.
That is what an unbelieving world simply finds unbelievable.”

There are so many definitions of what it means to be a Christian. I don’t feel any need to measure up to those definitions. If you ask ten people what being a “Christian” means, you may get ten different answers. Something about that just strikes me as being wrong.

What does being a Christian mean? I submit to you it means being a label; it means living up to someone’s preconceived notion of what he/she thinks being a Christian means. Sounds reminiscent of the Pharisees I think.

How about being religious…I dislike this one even more. I’m here to tell you…you can be religious to the utmost, and know nothing of what it means to serve God. Need an example of this? How about an example that comes right out of the bible? The Apostle Paul was the poster boy for being religious before Christ got a hold of him. Do you see the difference? If not read the book of Acts 7:54-60; Acts 9:10-30.

I much prefer the term “Believer”. What is a believer you say? A believer believes in God the Father, Jesus, and His atoning work on the cross. A believer believes that Christ lives today and forever, and will return some day to this earth, that Christ is the only way to the Father and that eternal life is found in Him. We as believers live to serve Him because we love Him and are grateful for what He has done for us. This is by no means an exhaustive list of what a believer is, that is not the point. Call yourself what you like, I like disciple as well.

What is important is what do you think about God?

  1. Do you believe in God?
  2. Do you serve Him or only watch from a distance?
  3. Does your worldview agree with the world, or does it coincide with what the bible has to say?
  4. Do you think that serving Him if you are truly His is an option or a must?
  5. Is Jesus your Lord and Savior, or only your Savior?
  6. Do you love Him for what He can do, or give you, or because you are grateful for what He has sacrificed for you?
  7. If you obey Him, is it because you love Him, or because it is a duty?
  8. Who do you serve, God or yourself?
  9. Are you God’s man or woman in church, but a different person altogether in the world?
  10. Is God the thing you do on Sunday, or is He Who you live for?

The answers to these questions are more then a little important. The answers define who you are in Christ if you are in Him at all. Don’t be a Christian, be one who abides in Christ. As Jesus abided in the Father, so must we abide in Christ. We must form a personal relationship with Jesus, not maybe, must.

Follow in Christ’s footsteps, as He did, so must we. None of us are perfect, that does not excuse us from trying our best by the power we have from the Holy Spirit to emulate Jesus the best we can. The actions of Christ were to be a servant, now if the One who created all that we see was a servant; we need to be servants as well. Love and serve…you will have the bible down pretty well if you can do that.

Question: Christianity Is Selfish?

Reblogged from J.S. Park:

yinayun asked:

“I don’t believe in Christianity because I believe it’s a selfish religion” what are your thoughts on such a statement? I have so much that I could say about it myself but I would love to hear your thoughts.

As a famous speaker once said, I feel like a mosquito at a nudist beach: Where do I start?

The Atheist God

This was originally posted by Bryan on Chief of the least. The original article can be found here. This is the whole post as it is very short, but well worth reading. If you like what you read here, head over to Bryan’s site Chief of the least, and check him out. Bryan has a wealth of good articles that will bless you!

“In that terrific tale of the Passion there is a distinct emotional suggestion that the author of all things (in some unthinkable way) went not only through agony, but through doubt. It is written, “Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.”  No; but the Lord thy God may tempt Himself; and it seems as if this was what happened in Gethsemane. In a garden Satan tempted man: and in a garden God tempted God. He passed in some superhuman manner through our human horror of pessimism. When the world shook and the sun was wiped out of heaven, it was not at the crucifixion, but at the cry from the cross: the cry which confessed that God was forsaken of God. And now let the revolutionists choose a creed from all the creeds and a god from all the gods of the world, carefully weighing all the gods of inevitable recurrence and of unalterable power. They will not find another god who has himself been in revolt.  Nay, (the matter grows too difficult for human speech,) but let the atheists themselves choose a god. They will find only one divinity who ever uttered their isolation; only one religion in which God seemed for an instant to be an atheist.”.’
